COVID-19 has completely altered how conferences and events are being organised, with many having to pivot to virtual events. Organising virtual events come with their own challenges, with online audiences easily distracted, technology failures and lack of engagement normally achieved when face-to-face.

So how can you avoid the snooze factor for your next virtual event? Here are a few tips from the Watermark Events team:

Legs Eleven… let’s play some Bingo

Many simply party games can be used to breakup presentations, allowing attendees to unwind and hopefully have a few laughs.

We especially like virtual bingo. This is a quick game that everyone knows how to play. With a simple google, you will discover plenty of options to generate your own bingo cards, branded for the conference or even a possible sponsor.

And the winner is..

Who doesn’t love winning a prize? So why not use that to encourage engagement with attendees?

How about a prize for the best dressed attendee? Participants share their photo on social media with the conference hashtag to go in the draw, while also increasing online awareness for the event.

For ease of distributing prizes, you may like to consider virtual goodies, such as gift vouchers or gift an experience from redballoon

Let’s get physical

Sitting in front of a computer all day can be a buzz kill. Starting the day with a morning meditation session or lunch time dance videos are a lot of fun. You can even incorporate some simple stretching activities at the beginning of each session.

While not for everyone, we have been surprised to see many professionals take part.

Now is the time to get creative with your online events. If you have seen some great online engagement activities, please share them in the comments section.
